Train to Gela | Non-commissioned | 2008

Petra Noordkamp’s (1967) photographs have a film-like quality that is reminiscent of Italian directors such as Michelangelo Antonioni and Roberto Rossellini. They possess a delicate tension that suggests that the main charachters just left the set, as if the climax of the story was just missed, but their astmosphere still lingers. This triggers a subtle melancholy and simultaneously creates the longing to be there, there were those main charachters are.

Petra investigates the influence of film and media on observing and experiencing the urban environment and by doing so, makes the city into her decor. She wants to make those moments when a film memory is evoked and colours reality, tangible in her work.

Petra has published in a diversity of media, such as NRC Focus, Volkskrant Magazine, Eigen.Zinnig, Rails and Avenue. Her work was also shown in the French magazine Purple Journal and the Dutch Fotomuseum.

The Curators of Contemporary Craft is a small design studio based in Durban, South Africa, consisting of Kim Longhurst and Scott Robertson. Andersom Agency is proud to present them both in the Netherlands. The Curators specialise in high end corporate design and illustration. As the name implies they are inventive with technique and make beautiful things with their bare hands.

Kim Longhurst believes that craft is next to godliness. She is a mama, designer, illustrator, embroiderer, gardener and a purveyor of all things beautiful (and kitsch). She also harbors a strong fascination for the anatomy of the human body. Her work has progressed from a shoe shine poster, the side of a bus, packaging, surfboards and book covers to publications in Martin Dawber’s Big Book of Fashion, Sunday Magazine, Luerzers Archive and IdN. Kim has taken part in collaborative exhibitions, has curated an exhibition of seven of Durban’s top illustrators and made a curious little solo show.

Leendert Masselink (1969) has built an impressive reputation throughout the years with his characteristic images and distinctive, humurous illustrations. You can recognise a “Leendert Masselink” from a mile away. Over and over again, he manages to get to the core of things, always on the lookout for a simple yet powerful translation of the subject, often as an icon or symbol. An added generous dose of humour makes his work very accesible. Leendert always brings a fresh pespective to the table and has the talent to bring a smile to your face.

Leendert finds his inspiration in what most people would call “unnecessary stuff”: little dolls, second-hand kitsch, retro or asian packaging and his database of scrap-boooks, in which he collects strange forms, people and animals, special typographys and odd colour contrasts.

Leendert has worked for a diversity of clients, designers and agencies, such as KesselsKarmer, Lava, PvdA, ELLE, de Volkskrant, NRC and Arnhem Mode Biënnale. Beside his commissioned work, Leendert exhibits his silk screen prints and original drawings on a regular basis.

Photographer Bettina Neumann (1967) is a remarkably allround photographer, but she most likes picturing intimate still lifes and people in their natural habitat. Originally, she studied graphic design and this background is one of the strenghts in her photography. Bettina almost always photographs on location, there were things happen. She hardly ever directs a situation; instead she finds things, that right there, on that exact moment posses an unique beauty she unfallibly captures. Bettina portraits daily life and shows us that an abundance of beautiful moments surround us.

Bettina draws her inspiration from the unnoticed details of daily life. Her whole life is her inspiration. She feels that there is no location or time that cannot be photographed in a beautiful manner. Her daily Twitter-photo’s are clear evidence of this.

Bettina photographed for a number of clients, amongst others the special book collection of the UvA, Heineken and Drukkerij Rob Stolk. She has also collaborated with renowned graphic design agencies such as Thonik, Studio Dumbar and Lava.

Wouter Stelwagen’s photos have a rare quality that make you stop and really watch. He pictures places that nobody usually sees, places that possess a solitary beauty and have an inherent stillness of their own. Spaces and buildings in any form or shape take on a special glow when seen through Wouter’s lense. In his work he often skirts the edges of cities, the borderlines between nature and culture. These places tell the stories on how mankind tries to shape the world. Often the things he finds there are not meant to be beautiful, but his gentle attention to detail and composition makes them just that.

After graduating from the Rietveld, Wouter has worked for a variety of clients, and participated in a diverse range of exhibitions.

Scott Robertson combines a love of all things glamorous and filthy with a dedication to the purest principles of design. Scott’s illustrations have appeared in diverse publications ranging from IdN, Sunday Magazine and the Design Indaba Magazine to the Luerzers Archive. He has ridden the corporate bus, exhibited amoral canvases and customized shoes and skate decks. His work is always a little subversive, sometimes scandalous and sometimes, all of a sudden, quite gentle.

Trevor Paul is a highly talented graphic designer and illustrator based in South-Africa, considered one of the finest in his country. Andersom Agency is proud to represent this graphic artist in the Netherlands.

Trevor has the ability to visualize his ideas in a variety of styles and loves having the opportunity to be creative and original with every new project. Trevor is an out-of-the-box thinker that is constantly searching for inspiration, which he often finds in unexpected places. ”Inspiration is everywhere, we just need to take the time out to find it”.

Trevor has worked with a diverse range of international clients. He recently created the visual style of Peter Jackson’s blockbuster film District 9, filmed in South Africa. He has been featured in several South African and international design publications, and was recently voted one of the top 200 Illustrators worldwide by Luerzer’s Archive.

David Elshout acquired international fame as founder and member of the artists collective Antistrot. Recently, he decided to focus on his own work. As a result his handwriting evolved into a rawer style with his constant urge to communicate and his unique vision on reality as focus points.

David gains his inspiration from body language and the materialism of objects. But also the representation of the Vietnam war in beautiful sixties photography, muscle cars, pin-ups and crime comics are a constant source of new ideas. He likes to provoke and to turn visual connotations upside down. But he also turns himself upside down by constantly pushing his boundaries on both a technical and conceptual level.

David exhibited his work all over the world and worked for clients such as Openbare Bibliotheek Rotterdam, Items and Labels Media.
